When your LG Washer displays the tE1 code, it means the appliance's self-diagnostic system has detected a fault that requires attention. LG's smart diagnosis system is designed to surface this error only when the condition is confirmed — meaning a single power cycle that clears the code is not a reliable fix if the underlying cause has not been addressed.
Based on our technicians' experience servicing LG Washers, the tE1 code is most frequently triggered by the following:
Before scheduling a service call, work through the following steps in order. These checks resolve the tE1 error in a meaningful percentage of cases when the cause is a minor blockage or transient fault rather than a failed component.
If the tE1 code returns after completing the steps above, a component has likely failed and the repair requires disassembly, professional diagnosis, and genuine LG OEM parts. Continuing to run the appliance with an active fault may cause secondary damage — for example, a failing drain pump that is not replaced can overheat and damage the motor or control board.
LG Appliance Experts technicians carry the most common replacement parts for LG Washers on every service vehicle. In most cases, we can diagnose and complete the repair in a single visit.
Repair costs for the tE1 error vary depending on which component has failed. Typical ranges based on our service history:

Answers to the most common questions our customers ask.
The most common causes are an unbalanced load (UE code), a worn drum bearing, a failed door latch (dE code), or a locked motor (LE code). LG TurboWash and Direct Drive motors have specific fault modes our certified technicians diagnose on the first visit using LG service tools.
Front-load LG washers commonly leak due to a torn door boot gasket, a failed pump seal, or a cracked inlet valve housing. Top-load models may leak from a damaged tub-to-pump hose or a faulty lid seal. Stop using the washer immediately and schedule service.
OE means the drain pump could not empty the drum within 15 minutes. Check for a kinked drain hose, clean the coin-trap filter (bottom-front panel on front-loaders), and verify the standpipe height is no more than 96 inches. If the code persists, the drain pump motor has likely failed.
LE indicates the motor is locked or stalled. This often points to a faulty rotor position sensor (hall sensor), a jammed drum caused by a foreign object, or a failing stator winding. LG Direct Drive motors are repairable — replacement stators and hall sensors are genuine LG OEM parts we stock.
Mold and mildew grow inside the door gasket folds and drum when the door is left closed after cycles. We recommend leaving the door ajar and running a monthly Tub Clean cycle. If odor persists, the gasket may need professional cleaning or replacement.
Most LG washer repairs are completed in a single visit of 1–3 hours. If a specialized part must be ordered, we typically return within 1–3 business days. We carry the most common LG washer parts on our service vehicles.
