LG Oven Not Heating to Temperature: Causes and Solutions

Electric vs. Gas — Two Different Diagnoses

LG makes both electric ranges and gas ranges. The no-heat or low-temperature diagnosis is completely different between them.

Electric Oven: Bake Element

The bake element is the large coil on the oven floor that glows red during baking. It is the most common failure point in an electric oven.

• Visually inspect the element for obvious breaks, blistering, or burn spots
• A failed element will have a visible break or charred area
• Test with a multimeter: disconnect power and test the element terminals for continuity. An infinite reading means the element is open/failed.
• Bake elements are a DIY-friendly repair on most LG models — unscrew two screws, disconnect two wires, connect the new element

Electric Oven: Temperature Sensor (RTD)

The temperature sensor is a probe inside the oven cavity (usually at the upper back) that reports oven temperature to the control board. If it reads incorrectly:

• The oven may over-heat or under-heat
• You can test it with a multimeter: at room temperature, a good sensor reads approximately 1000–1100 ohms resistance
• LG displays an F3 or F4 error code when the sensor reads out of range

Gas Oven: Igniter

The gas oven igniter glows orange to heat the bimetal safety valve, which opens when hot enough to allow gas to flow. A weak igniter may glow but not reach the temperature needed to open the valve:

• Watch the igniter through the oven window — it should glow bright orange within 60 seconds
• If it glows dull orange for more than 90 seconds without igniting, the igniter is weak and should be replaced
• A failed igniter does not glow at all

Calibration Offset

All ovens are allowed to vary up to 25°F from the set temperature. If your oven consistently runs 25°F low, you may not have a failed component — you may simply need to adjust the calibration offset in the settings menu. Consult your LG owner’s manual for the calibration procedure for your model.

Control Board

If the element and sensor test good, the control board may not be sending the correct signals. This is diagnosed by checking for error codes and measuring voltage output to the element relay. Control board diagnosis and replacement requires a technician.

• Clean filters regularly. Lint filters, drain pump filters, and water inlet screens accumulate debris over time. A clogged filter is one of the most common causes of performance issues and error codes.
• Don't overload. Consistently running your Oven & Range beyond its rated capacity puts extra stress on the motor, drum bearings, and suspension components.
• Use the correct detergent and amounts. Excess detergent — especially non-HE detergent in HE appliances — causes buildup, mold, and sensor errors over time.
• Check hoses and connections annually. Inspect inlet and drain hoses for cracks, kinks, or loose connections at least once a year, especially if your appliance is more than five years old.
• Level the appliance. An unlevel Oven & Range vibrates excessively during operation, accelerating wear on internal components and causing noise and balance errors.

LG offers a standard one-year parts and labor warranty on most appliances, with extended coverage on specific components — most notably the 10-year warranty on linear compressors in qualifying refrigerators.
