LG Dryer d80 d90 d95 Error: FlowSense Duct Blockage Fix

3 min read Updated: April 7, 2026 By LG Appliance Experts

The d80, d90, and d95 codes tell you your LG dryer’s exhaust duct is partially or fully blocked. Left unfixed, this is a fire hazard. Here’s how to clear it safely.

What d80, d90, d95 Mean

LG’s FlowSense technology continuously measures airflow through the exhaust duct. The percentage in the code represents how blocked the duct is:

  • d80 — 80% restriction (dryer will still run, but inefficiently)
  • d90 — 90% restriction (significant performance loss, safety concern)
  • d95 — 95% restriction (dryer shuts down to prevent overheating)

These are not just performance warnings — a blocked dryer duct is one of the leading causes of residential fires. Address this immediately.

Step 1 — Clean the Lint Filter

The lint filter should be cleaned before every single load. A partially clogged filter reduces airflow significantly. Remove the filter, clear all lint, and if the screen is coated with fabric softener residue (water beads on it), wash it with dish soap and a soft brush.

Step 2 — Check and Clean the Exhaust Duct

  1. Unplug the dryer and pull it away from the wall.
  2. Disconnect the duct from the back of the dryer.
  3. Look inside — you should see clear through to daylight (or the exterior vent cap).
  4. Use a dryer vent cleaning brush kit to push lint through the entire length of the duct.
  5. Vacuum out the loose lint from both ends.
  6. Go outside and check the exterior vent cap — the flap should open freely and there should be no bird nests or lint buildup in the hood.

Step 3 — Inspect the Duct Itself

While the duct is disconnected, check for:

  • Crushed sections — especially if the dryer was pushed too close to the wall
  • Excess length or too many bends — LG recommends a maximum equivalent length of 65 feet for rigid metal duct (each 90° elbow = 5 feet)
  • Vinyl or plastic flexible duct — replace with rigid metal or UL-listed semi-rigid aluminum. Plastic duct is a fire hazard and is not to code.

After Cleaning

Reconnect everything, plug in the dryer, and run a 10-minute Air-Only cycle. FlowSense should clear the code once it detects adequate airflow. If the code returns immediately after a thorough cleaning, the issue may be an obstruction deeper in the wall duct that requires a professional duct cleaning service.

Why Professional Service May Be the Right Choice

While many Dryer issues can be addressed with the steps in this guide, there are situations where attempting a DIY repair can make the problem worse or void your warranty. If you've followed the steps above and the issue persists, or if you're not comfortable working with electrical components or water connections, calling a factory-certified technician is the safest and most cost-effective path forward.

LG Appliance Experts technicians are trained directly to LG's service specifications. They arrive with the most common OEM replacement parts already on the vehicle, which means most repairs are completed in a single visit — no waiting for parts to be ordered.

Preventing the Problem from Recurring

Most Dryer issues that require repair are preventable with regular maintenance. Key habits that extend appliance life and reduce fault frequency:

  • Clean filters regularly. Lint filters, drain pump filters, and water inlet screens accumulate debris over time. A clogged filter is one of the most common causes of performance issues and error codes.
  • Don't overload. Consistently running your Dryer beyond its rated capacity puts extra stress on the motor, drum bearings, and suspension components.
  • Use the correct detergent and amounts. Excess detergent — especially non-HE detergent in HE appliances — causes buildup, mold, and sensor errors over time.
  • Check hoses and connections annually. Inspect inlet and drain hoses for cracks, kinks, or loose connections at least once a year, especially if your appliance is more than five years old.
  • Level the appliance. An unlevel Dryer vibrates excessively during operation, accelerating wear on internal components and causing noise and balance errors.

LG Warranty and Service Coverage

LG offers a standard one-year parts and labor warranty on most appliances, with extended coverage on specific components — most notably the 10-year warranty on linear compressors in qualifying refrigerators. If your appliance is still within its manufacturer warranty period, contact LG directly before scheduling an independent repair, as unauthorized service may affect warranty coverage.

For appliances outside the warranty period, LG Appliance Experts provides a 90-day parts and labor warranty on every repair we complete. All replacement parts are genuine LG OEM components sourced directly from LG's authorized parts network.
