Burners on the electric ranges can fail to turn off after being switched off and the temperature setting can increase unexpectedly during use, posing burn and fire hazards to consumers.
A defective electronic control board caused the cooking burners on these LG electric ranges to remain on or increase in temperature even after being switched off by the user. LG received 80 consumer complaints before issuing this recall of 161,000 units.
No fires or injuries had been reported at the time of the recall. However, consumers were advised to stop using the range immediately if they were unable to regulate the burner heat and to contact LG to schedule a free in-home repair.
The recall affects freestanding and slide-in electric ranges sold between January 2006 and June 2012 at Best Buy, Home Depot, and Sears for between $800 and $2,000.
Contact LG to schedule a free in-home repair. Stop using the range immediately if unable to regulate burner heat. Call 1-800-243-0000.
